Vivien Ying has her eyes on the future of the finance industry. As a Senior Vice President at DBS Bank in Hong Kong, she wants to help lead the fintech revolution that is reshaping banking and financial services. She recently attended Leveraging Fintech Innovation to Grow and Compete at Harvard Business School (HBS) to gain new perspective into what lies ahead for her industry and her organization. In this interview, she shares some highlights of her experience in the program.
I came away from the program with a better understanding that disruption and change are inevitable. Although no one can predict the future, it's possible — and important — to reimagine the future and pave the way in a strategic manner.
I wanted to challenge my thinking with new ideas and strengthen my network with new friends. This program exceeded my expectations in both regards.
On-campus immersion turned out to be invaluable because it enabled learning and reflection without distractions. The professors created an environment that inspired thinking and learning while embracing a broad range of backgrounds and global expertise. The case studies were recent, relevant, well-structured, and expertly prepared.
The diverse expertise of the living group enabled very interesting exchanges and discussions. And the support these individuals provided an environment for very productive learning — and playing!
Anyone in need of new inspiration can benefit from Executive Education at HBS — particularly those who regard learning as reinvestment in themselves and their organizations. Those who are eager to engage with the elites of their field will discover that it's an extraordinary opportunity to expand their network.
Be prepared for the case studies and step into the classroom with an open mind. This learning journey is filled with pleasant surprises.
