Blazing Trails in the Entertainment Industry
Brisa Trinchero is an innovator in the entertainment industry. In addition to being a Broadway producer, she is the founder and CEO of ShooWin, a sports and entertainment tech startup she recently launched to provide fans better access and prices to events such as playoff games and concerts. To improve her industry knowledge and leadership skills, she enrolled in The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports program at Harvard Business School (HBS). As a participant, she gained invaluable insights and developed professional connections that are now enriching her career and her company’s prospects.
What were your objectives in attending the program?
I attended the program to gain insight and inspiration from the wide variety of case studies in my field. I was also eager to experience firsthand the world-class education experience at Harvard Business School.
How did the program compare to your expectations?
I had a great experience at HBS. Because the program was highly curated, we were able to benefit not just from the excellent case studies and professors but also from the expertise of fellow participants from around the world. The connections I made with my classmates have been wonderfully positive. The program fostered an incredibly strong sense of community among the group. I left the program feeling inspired and supported by my new colleagues and eager to support them.
What did you think of the on-campus experience?
Living on campus allowed me to fully immerse myself in the program. Being able to live and breathe the program without the distractions of daily work and home life enabled me to find new perspectives and return to my company with a fresh outlook.
Do you now have specific insights or strategies to apply to your current work?
I often find myself referring to various lessons from the case studies. For example, the Jay-Z Decoded case is extremely relevant to navigating major partnerships, and FC Barcelona is useful in harnessing the power of fan bases.
What surprised you most about the program?
I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly a sense of community was created in the classroom. Even though the participants were a diverse group from different areas of the entertainment industry — business leaders, athletes, and celebrities from around the world — everyone was empowered and compelled to speak up, debate, intellectually spar, and bring fascinating real-world experiences to the table. It’s amazing how much depth and bonding was achieved in such a short time.
How has the program changed your view of the entertainment industry?
The entertainment industry has been changing rapidly. Being able to analyze current case studies across sports and entertainment helped to bring into clear focus how things are changing and where things may be going in the industry. The lessons and takeaways from the program certainly influenced my perspective on how to position my own company in the current sports and entertainment landscape.
