Discovering New Ways to Lead in Health Care
Among his responsibilities as Vice President at Partners Healthcare International, Mehul Mehta, M.D., oversees strategy and program development. After five years in the role, he wanted to expand his knowledge and sharpen his skills as he faces today's challenges in health care. With this in mind, he enrolled in the Managing Health Care Delivery program at HBS, where he discovered new ways to think about leadership and expanded his global network. He shares some insights about his experience.
Why did you choose to attend this program?
After reviewing a number of options, I discovered that this was the only program that also had a very well structured curriculum and an immersive, interactive learning environment. It covers the key contemporary health care challenges, and it is taught by renowned faculty.
In what ways did the program provide value to you?
I experienced value on several levels. On a personal level, it helped me rethink my own approach to managing and leading in the work I do. It also provided examples, frameworks, solutions, and approaches that I can apply to my organization and our projects. It allowed me to learn from and build relationships with some amazing executives from all over the world. And it gave me the opportunity to interact with highly accomplished faculty—many of whom are global thought leaders—in a protected learning environment. The experience was truly unique.
Did you take away anything that you can apply to your work?
Absolutely. Because of the case-based methodology at HBS—and the proficiency of the faculty in identifying the key lessons embedded in the cases—I am now better equipped to frame the challenges we face in our global projects and implement new approaches and solutions.
Did you experience any "aha" moments?
Yes. Every time I saw a problem or issue differently, or saw a solution or approach synthesized to its logical elements, that was an "aha" moment for me. There were many of these in each module.
