Expanding Your Vantage Point and Advantage at GMP
Priscilla Everhart is the owner and CEO of Norwood Hart Consulting, an independent business supporting NGOs, not-for-profits, and small businesses, and the vice president of strategic growth and finance for The New Teacher Project (TNTP), a not-for-profit that helps schools achieve their goals and offers support at the classroom, district, and state levels. Since completing the General Management Program (GMP), she is more proactive in applying her newfound strengths, confidence, and vantage point—and is making a transformative impact across both organizations.
What brought you to the General Management Program?
As a financial and strategy leader, I know how vital it is to maintain a global view to ensure the future product mix and fiscal vitality of your organization remain promising. I realized that GMP would give me the tools to analyze the world from a global perspective, while also building lifelong relationships and gleaning learnings from faculty and other executives. Often, we forget that not-for-profits generate billions in revenue globally and play not only a social but also a critical role in future success for the global majority. Therefore, it is imperative to ensure leaders in that space are not operating with tunnel vision, blind to external factors beyond our mission.
How did GMP change the way you lead?
GMP expanded my analysis of process, procedures, and the current state of play. Now, I am better prepared to engage with teammates, board members, and external clients, and am more proactive in sharing vision and value add to push margins and impact forward. Rather than go into conversations simply focused on finance, I consider all the factors in the ecosystem that are impacting a small subset of data. This expanded vantage point has led to more robust discussions and has galvanized the pricing and client lifecycle transformation process.
In what ways did GMP help increase your overall confidence?
GMP reassured me that I am knowledgeable and can have impact across industries. I also embrace my strengths as a vulnerable leader who listens and authentically empathizes and sympathizes with others. GMP has made me confident that I can reach my goals.
Have you received any positive feedback from colleagues or other executives regarding your growth since the program?
Yes, colleagues and other executives have lauded my ability to see the bigger picture and to speak directly, clearly, and empathetically.
What toolkits, learnings, or frameworks have you applied to your everyday life that you learned from GMP?
All of them! From placing decisions into four quadrants and running the quick economic metrics for countries to revamping valuation model analysis for new opportunities, I use my learnings from GMP daily.
How would you summarize the program's value to others who are considering applying to GMP?
The General Management Program is the epitome of having an orientation toward lifelong learning. This program is for all executives looking to enhance their leadership and knowledge along their career journey. If you think you know it all, you will quickly learn that true knowledge and power lie in the worldwide collective of amazing leadership and talent surrounding you at GMP. In terms of career trajectory and future opportunities, I hope to take this invaluable experience and create a more robust future within my sector and beyond.
