Participants are expected to complete all three units of the same cohort for completion of the program, unless there is an extenuating circumstance that prevents them from doing so. If this happens, with approval from the Program Director, participants may join a subsequent cohort.

Pre-Program
Work will begin about one month prior to the start of the program. Pre-work is self-paced and includes both case preparation and access to HBS Online coursework taught by V.G. Narayanan—HBS faculty and Senior Associate Dean of Executive Education and HBS Online. Participants should set aside 10-12 hours per week to complete pre-work before the start of Unit 1.

Between units, you will assess and improve your leadership performance as you apply what you've learned to tackle opportunities and challenges at your company.

OPM is designed for business owners and founders who meet the following criteria:
You (or your family) hold a significant equity stake in the firm
You have an active operating role in the firm
The business has experienced substantive growth and scale since company inception
Your role covers the scope of chief executive officer, chief operating officer, president, managing director, or executive director of the company
While the curriculum emphasizes entrepreneurial leadership, participants from multigenerational family businesses and long-established companies are also welcome to attend.
