The telephone in your bedroom and living group lounge features one-touch dialing buttons to quickly reach, among others: Guest Services, the Program Office, Technology Support Services, HBS Operations/Maintenance (for issues when Guest Services is closed), HBS Security, and the Harvard University Police Department (the Urgent Assistance button) in the event you need urgent assistance while on campus, including urgent medical assistance. There is no charge for calls.
Note: Both your room number and telephone number are listed in the upper-left corner of the display screen on the telephone.

Please take a moment to record your name and set up your personal greeting:
Note: The default greeting for your voice mail lists your bedroom number; callers leaving you a message will not hear your name as part of this greeting. Therefore, you are highly encouraged to record your name, and then either record a personal greeting or use the standard greeting with your recorded name—this way callers will know they are leaving a message for the correct person.
The red light on your bedroom telephone handset indicates that there are new messages; it will remain on until all new messages have been played.

Each bedroom has a desktop computer with a high-speed network connection. In addition, you have access to a shared printer (with copy functionality) located in your living group lounge. Documents printed from your bedroom (and the living group lounge) computer will print directly to this resource. There is also a larger printer/copier unit in the Business Center on the first floor.
The computer in your bedroom is equipped with a web camera that allows you to make personal video-conferencing calls to others via the Internet anywhere in the world, allowing you to stay in close touch with your family and friends while here are at HBS.
The following software is installed on your computer:
There are some cases where a specially configured personal computer may be the only way to receive your external email while here at HBS (for example, if you use a corporate VPN and PPTP to check your email or if you use Exchange server with Microsoft Outlook).
Your company's IT department can help you choose the best solution for accessing your non-HBS email accounts. Technology Support Services is available to answer any questions you may have.
Power managementThe computer in your bedroom will switch to low-power consumption during a set period of inactivity. In this state, your computer will appear to be off. To wake it, simply move your mouse or tap the keyboard. To put your computer to sleep, just press the power button on the right side of the display. To turn your computer off, select the Shut down power option on the Windows menu.

HBS offers two campus-wide wireless networks. Both offer the same connection speed through the HBS Network.
HBSGUEST (HBS Public Wireless Network): This is the most convenient resource. You can connect to this option simply by selecting it from the list of available wireless networks on your laptop or mobile device.
HBSSECURE (HBS Secure Wireless Network): Offers higher levels of encryption for added data security. To connect, select HBSSECURE from the list of available wireless networks on your laptop or mobile device, and then enter your HBS username and password when prompted.
Note: A spare Ethernet cable is available in each bedroom which allows you to connect your laptop or other device to the HBS Network. This is the most secure and reliable option for network connectivity, and offers the fastest connection.
For assistance, contact Technology Support Services at ithelp@hbs.edu or +1.617.495.6600 (5.6600 or the one-touch button from any residence-hall phone).
