Safety and Security
Overview
Safety and security are top priorities at Harvard Business School. We ask that you review both the Safety and Security Information sheet posted at your bedroom desk and the Emergency Evacuation Information located on the back of your bedroom door, and familiarize yourself with the closest exit and emergency evacuation meeting area.
HBS is located in an urban setting and we remind you to take precautions to protect yourself and your property. Be aware of your surroundings when walking through campus and the surrounding community, and travel in groups whenever possible after dark. Remember to take proper precautions to protect your valuables; do not leave valuables unattended in the classroom or any other public area at any time. HBS is not responsible for any loss of personal property. Additional safety tips from the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) can be found here.
On-campus urgent assistance
In the event of an urgent situation—including the need for urgent medical assistance—call
the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) at +1.617.495.1212 (5.1212 from any
campus phone). Be prepared to give them your name, location (including building and
room number, if applicable), and details of the urgent situation. When you are off
campus, the emergency number to call is 911.
Annual security report
The safety and security of the HBS community is also a paramount concern for the
Harvard University Police Department (HUPD). In an effort to educate community members,
HUPD produces an annual security report, "Playing It Safe". This report is a valuable resource containing general information regarding personal
safety, how to report a crime, and HUPD services. It also serves as the formal reporting
mechanism for crime statistics on campus. Safety and security is a shared responsibility
among faculty, staff, students, participants, and guests. If you see something, say
something.
