HBS professors are widely recognized for their role as thought leaders. But recently, two of our faculty members were recognized for their role in advancing the technology sector itself: The Boston Globe included Youngme E. Moon and Frances X. Frei in a list of "Tech Power Players 50" for 2023.
The list, now in its second year, naturally includes tech CEOs, venture capitalists, and entrepreneurs, but goes beyond technologists to explore the broader ecosystem of tech industries in New England and the people who have "kept the region's technology industry vibrant in a challenging climate." By including Moon and Frei in the list, the Globe emphasizes the role academic institutions play in helping business leaders succeed.
Youngme E. Moon, Donald K. David Professor of Business Administration, was recognized for "leadership in business education, culture, and media." At HBS Executive Education, she is part of the teaching team for the Advanced Management Program.
Moon's research covers strategy, branding innovation, and culture, focusing on youth and the digital economy. A bestselling case writer and award-winning teacher, Moon has studied a wide range of companies inside and outside technology sectors, including many startups. She also serves on several boards, including Unilever and Warby Parker. To explore some of her work, check out:

Frances X. Frei, UPS Foundation Professor of Service Management and her co-author Anne Morriss were recognized for "advancing research on empathetic leadership strategies and more welcoming workplaces." The two co-founded The Leadership Consortium, which helps organizations create conditions where more leaders can thrive, through a combination of custom advisory work, one-on-one coaching, and an accelerator program. Frei's research investigates how leaders and businesses can nurture excellence in strategy, operations, and culture, and she brings her expertise to real-life challenges through her work advising executives tackling change initiatives. She is on the teaching team Growing as a Purposeful Leader, Owner/President Management, Senior Executive Leadership Program—China, The HR-Executive Suite Connection, and Transforming Customer Experiences.
