As global competition intensifies, visionary companies are investing in a pipeline of emerging executives who can help them build and secure a competitive edge. The Program for Leadership Development (PLD) speeds this time-consuming process by equipping up-and-coming managers with a broader understanding of the global marketplace and a more integrated view of the organization. You will emerge from PLD ready to drive change, innovation, and growth in any economy.
An alternative to the executive MBA, PLD is an accelerated learning experience that puts you on the fast track to leadership. But unlike an executive MBA program, PLD is tailored to your unique leadership goals and challenges.
PLD is designed for emerging business leaders who will assume the integrated responsibilities of company leadership. Its comprehensive and holistic approach broadens your understanding of core business functions and deepens your confidence to take on greater cross-functional responsibility. With a broader grasp of management and greater confidence, you will return to your organization fully prepared to identify new sources of revenue and address the key challenges facing your organization.

An immersive learning experience, PLD accelerates your personal and professional transformation by combining two on-campus and two distance-learning modules. A fifth optional two-week session provides the opportunity to achieve HBS alumni status and gain access to a wealth of resources and a powerful global network. Through a personal case study and one-on-one coaching, you will develop a unique leadership style that not only inspires organizational collaboration, but also empowers you to help your company expand across industries and beyond borders.
PLD is ideal for managers and functional specialists from organizations with annual revenues in excess of $75 million, who have at least 10 to 15 years of professional work experience and are considered to be outstanding prospects for leadership. Your PLD peers will represent diverse business functions, companies, industries, and countries.
Completing PLD's four core modules puts you on the path to achieving HBS alumni status. By completing PLD Module 5 or additional coursework, you will gain exclusive access to our global alumni network and a vast array of resources that facilitate lifelong learning, growth, and success.
Participants return to their organizations with a better understanding of their leadership strengths, improved general management skills, and a broader outlook on business issues. Organizations benefit by deepening their talent pool and investing in long-term growth.

Please submit your application at least four weeks before the program start date. Since qualified candidates are admitted on a rolling, space-available basis, early application is encouraged. Admission is selective and based on professional achievement and organizational responsibility. Although there are no formal educational requirements, proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. Because Executive Education programs enhance the leadership capacity of the participants as well as their organizations, HBS expects the full commitment of both. While participants are attending a program, sponsoring organizations agree to relieve them of their work responsibilities so that they can fully focus on the learning experience.
