Few businesses today can afford to ignore China in their growth plans as a market, supply chain, or customer. Recognizing that Asia will continue to shape the 21st century, Harvard Business School (HBS) Executive Education has been on the ground in China writing cases on the entrepreneurial spirit, government influence, and local infrastructure that are driving business in this region and beyond. Based on that extensive research, we have developed an exclusive program for alumni of the General Management Program (GMP) and The General Manager Program™ (TGMP). The inaugural session of the GMP Executive Renewal Seminar—China will take place at the Harvard Center Shanghai in November.

Led by Benjamin C. Esty, Linda A. Hill, Rajiv Lal, and F. Warren McFarlan, the GMP Executive Renewal Seminar—China will examine the challenges and opportunities facing companies operating in China today as well as what to expect over the next 20 years. Through relevant new cases, panel discussions with local business and government leaders, and a tour of a Chinese factory, you will deepen your knowledge of China today—and learn how to build global expansion strategies for the future.

Topics will include:

  • Competing with China globally
  • Expanding your business into China
  • Understanding the rise of China as a major financial center
  • Analyzing import and export opportunities in China
  • Exploring the role of China's government in business strategies
  • Examining the impact of China's infrastructure—housing, transportation, and energy—on economic development
  • Managing talent in China
