Connect to Your Corporate Network (VPN)
So that we may be able to assist you faster it is recommended that you contact EETS prior to your arrival at HBS.
To ensure that your VPN connection will work through our firewall, please contact us at least three business days before the start of your program with the following information. You should be able to obtain this information from your company's IT department.
- TCP and UDP ports used by the VPN program
- Server address for the VPN server
On Campus: Troubleshooting Your VPN Connection
Make sure you are using "wired" Ethernet and not the wireless network. Extra Ethernet cables for your laptop are available in your dormitory's Program Office.
Disable the wireless connection if it is active. To disable your wireless connection:
- Go to Start...Settings...Network Connections.
(In some versions of Windows, you will need to go to Start...Settings...Control Panel...Network Connections.)
- Right click Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
Make sure your computer is plugged into the right-hand Ethernet jack (D2). You do not have to turn off your computer.
Test the Internet connection by loading a web page. You may need to wait 30 seconds before a web page will load after switching the Ethernet jack.
If you still cannot load a web page, restart your computer. If this does not work, contact us for network connection troubleshooting.
Once you have plugged your computer into the right-hand Ethernet jack and have successfully loaded a web page, try opening a VPN connection. If it does not work, please contact us for assistance. We may need the following information about your VPN server, which you should be able to obtain from your company's IT department.
- Ports used by the VPN program
- Server address for the VPN server
If you have not contacted us with this information before the start of your program, it may take up to one business day to change our firewall configuration so that you may use your VPN.
