Complex Business Challenges, Innovative Action Learning

Facing rapid commoditization, growing competition, and rising customer demands, today's executives have more complex decisions to make—and less time to make them. To add to the challenge, business leaders must find ways to execute their strategies effectively across today's highly diverse, multicultural global organizations.

This demanding environment requires that executives be agile, focused, and committed to their own ongoing professional development. In my new role as Senior Associate Dean of Executive Education and Publishing at HBS, I will ensure that we continue our distinguished heritage of facilitating lifelong partnerships with accomplished and talented executives who want to contribute to their company's success at a much higher level.

The HBS learning experience is marked by our innovative approach to executive education. In every program, we expose executives to the best in global business practices, engage them in new problem-solving frameworks, and prompt them to retool and reframe their thinking. At the same time, we help executives recognize patterns and improve their analytical skills, empowering them to make informed decisions in the face of high uncertainty and information overload. Finally, we expand their thinking through intensive engagement with a diverse group of global peers.

Our portfolio includes more than 80 open-enrollment programs on focused topics; three truly transformational comprehensive leadership programs; and custom programs designed for the needs of specific organizations. The content of our programs is both developed and delivered by our renowned full-time faculty, who leverage their rich, in-the-field business experience and the resources of our seven research centers throughout the world to create programs that are global, relevant, and timely.

Not only do we continually update our programs to ensure they incorporate the latest research and trends, but we also regularly introduce innovative programs that reflect the evolution of the business world. For example, our new program Competing on Business Analytics and Big Data helps executives harness the vast amounts of available data, while Emerging Issues in Healthcare and Business Innovations in Global Healthcare provide insight into the issues impacting healthcare delivery and groundbreaking ways to drive better outcomes.

Whether delivered in Boston, Shanghai, Mumbai, or Europe, each of our programs brings together talented executives from diverse countries, functions, and industries to explore the latest frameworks, research, and best practices. Learning takes place inside and outside the classroom, propelled by our hallmark case methodology, which fully engages executives in the learning process, and our unique living groups, which promote essential peer-to-peer learning.

I have been part of the Executive Education team for the past 18 years, serving as both a faculty member and chair for several programs, including the Advanced Management Program and the Program for Leadership Development. Through the years, I have observed that the obstacles confronting leaders are growing in both complexity and urgency. I encourage you to connect with us for more information on how our programs can help you advance your skills as a leader and take on future challenges with confidence and vision.
